The Gay Games in Valencia were a resounding success – over 11,000 participants competed in 36 sports. Athletes from Team Munich were also there in Spain (see below). The next Gay Games will take place in Perth, Australia, in 2030.

News from Team Munich


This year’s 12th Summer Sports Festival It was an impressive, warm and sportingly varied weekend that brought our community together in a special way. Over three days – from 12 to 14 June – we played, celebrated and relaxed together.


Following registration on Friday evening, Saturday’s programme centred on badminton, volleyball and table tennis, as well as the yoga workshop. 250 participants took an active part, ensuring a dynamic, fair and energetic programme.

A particularly special moment was the Participation of the refugee team, The Nile Munich from the Freising area at the volleyball tournament. Thanks to an outreach programme, the team was able to take part free of charge – a powerful symbol of inclusion and solidarity in action. Their participation enriched the festival and facilitated many new encounters.


On Saturday evening, the Feierwerk was transformed into a place brimming with energy and a sense of community: 300 people celebrated together, including athletes, friends, supporters and long-standing members. The Party was a joyful highlight that brought together sporting successes, the joy of reunions and new friendships.


The event came to a relaxed close on Sunday with the Brunch at Café Nil, which was attended by 38 participants. In a relaxed atmosphere, the weekend was reflected upon, there was plenty of laughter, and the festival drew to a close in pleasant company.


The 2026 Summer Sports Festival has impressively demonstrated what Team Munich is all about: diversity, openness, team spirit and the joy of playing sport together. A heartfelt Thank you To all the athletes, volunteers, organisers and partners who made this weekend possible.

Hello Claudia, hello kickboxing


It had been announced some time ago: After 15 years Claudia is bringing her career at Team München to a close as a successful coach and head of the kickboxing section. As no successor had been found in recent months, on 27 July the The division’s final training session Kickboxing. The farewell was celebrated in style at Café Glück.


The Team München Executive Committee and the whole club would like to thank Claudia for her outstanding and dedicated work over the past 15 years and wish her all the best for the future.

Gay Games Valencia


The 12th Gay Games took place in Valencia from 27 June to 4 July. Among the more than 11,000 participants were several from Munich. Team Munich congratulates all participants and all medallists!

From the divisions


Minigolf: On the evening of 24 July, members of the table tennis, FLINTA football and TIN football teams, the minigolf hosts and friends gathered in sunny weather at the minigolf course in the Olympic Park for the first Team Munich Mini-golf Club Championship.


17 players gave it their all to putt the ball in as few strokes as possible. In the end, the winner was Enrico (Streetboys and Mini-golf) with a sensational 36 strokes over 18 holes. In second place was André (mini-golf and basketball) with 39 strokes. Third place went to Nils (43 strokes), followed by Björn (table tennis and mini-golf), Steffi (FLINTA football) and Claudia (table tennis). Moni (mini-golf) and Sibylle (table tennis) shared seventh place with 49 strokes.


Afterwards, everyone gathered for the prize-giving ceremony and to socialise in the neighbouring beer garden. The section management would like to thank all participants. Mini-golf takes place every second and fourth Friday of the month, weather permitting. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro – everyone is welcome. Rugby: There’s no summer lull for the Munich Monks at the end of the season – quite the opposite, in fact. Three Munich Monks players joined a joint team at the Gay Games in Valencia and secured a fantastic third place. A huge success.


Once again this year, the Munich Monks, together with Team München, took part in the parade at the Munich CSD. There, they were able to embody the spirit of rugby and inspire many people to see just what a cool sport rugby is. As there were also plenty of leaflets for the Training for beginners which took place on 20 July, gave many curious people the chance to have a go at rugby and get a taste of the sport. Some have joined the Munich Monks, and the team continues to grow. On the same day, a player from the Munich Monks secured the runners-up title at the Bavarian Championship in Munich.


Alongside all these successes and celebrations, the Munich Monks are now also marking their tenth anniversary – and everyone is warmly invited to join in the celebrations. On 8 August, there will be a Friendly match against partner clubs and a barbecue afterwards. The game kicks off at 12.30 pm. It’s a great opportunity to get to know each other. We look forward to seeing you all!

Yoga: Yoga doesn’t take a summer break. However, from 4 August to 8 September, we are offering just one yoga class at 7.00 pm. We hope that this time is a good compromise for participants in both classes. The class will take place as usual on Tuesday evenings in the sports hall at Schwanthalerstraße 89. We wish you a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you at yoga.



Table Tennis: In the table tennis section, the rubbers are being replaced, the balls cleaned and the spin fine-tuned. That’s because on Saturday 12 September, the annual club championship at the hall on Gotzinger Platz. Everyone is very welcome – whether you’re a beginner or a pro, a member of the sports section or a club member, the main thing is that you enjoy the sport! Please register by 3 September here to take part. We’re looking forward to a day of sport and socialising with you all – see you on the court!

Dancing: During the summer holidays, all Dance classes will take place at the Stielerschule from 3 to 21 August. From 22 August to 14 September, the two halls at the Stielerschule will be closed for repair and maintenance work.



Tennis: In the case of the Gay Games in Valencia Team Munich also put in a strong showing on the tennis courts. The tournament proved particularly successful for Ray and Steve. Ray secured the gold medal in the All Gender Singles 40+ B, rounding off a strong tournament performance despite temperatures reaching 35 degrees at times during the final match. Steve also had reason to celebrate two podium finishes: he won bronze in the All Gender Singles 18+ D and bronze in the Mixed Doubles 40+ D, and was subsequently delighted to receive an invitation from his randomly assigned doubles partner to the medal ceremony at Team Netherlands„ “Holland House’.


Team Munich member Dietmar enjoyed success, winning two silver medals in the 50+ age group in the singles and doubles. The Munich tennis team was rounded off by Sammy and Flo, who also represented Team Munich at the Gay Games with great dedication and team spirit.  


The scale of such an international sporting event was impressive, even though the size of the tournament revealed certain shortcomings – for example, the difficulty in reaching the tennis courts, some of which were located well outside the city limits – and meant that even club members were barely able to support one another.


Congratulations to all the participants, and especially to our medallists Ray, Dietmar and Steve! We are proud of your achievements and the way you represented Team Munich so brilliantly in Valencia.



Queer Tango Argentino: In July, we organised a weekend of workshops, during which we were once again delighted to welcome Soledad Nani from Argentina. Soledad led four workshops on various topics, such as musicality and milonga. We listened to tango music in various styles, learnt how to interpret and improvise to it, and worked on new step sequences. Even our beginners had the pleasure of experiencing Soledad as a teacher. The theme was „pauses“ as a source of dynamism in dancing. Soledad teaches in several languages. There are no communication problems, as her most important form of communication is her body language, which everyone can follow. We hope to be able to invite her back again next year!

Streetboys: It has been an eventful summer so far for the Team München Streetboys: At the CSD Munich We took part as a group of walkers and were able to get lots of new, interested players on board – an important sign of diversity in football! Straight afterwards, we headed to Valencia to the Gay Games. And here we learnt what really matters: after four intense days with teams from all over the world, one thing was clear to us – fun won the day!  

We are currently in the middle of the Pre-season preparations. The training camp in Prutting over the first weekend in August is just around the corner – an intensive period of training, practical sessions and team-building, during which new and experienced players will work together on their fitness, technique and team spirit. Bring on the new season!

Handball: On 29 and 30 July, we were at the Euro Handball Pride Championship in Amsterdam. More on this in the next newsletter. As part of our pre-season preparations, we have also decided to organise a joint training weekend in August. In addition, there will be an event on Sunday 23 August at 2 pm Test gamel against TuS Raublingen, and also on 16 September at 8.30 pm against SVN Munich. So, handball is finally back!

On 13 September, the Run for Life 2026 . The charity run in aid of Münchner Aids-Hilfe is taking place for the 26th time this year! Registrations are now open here possible.



Come and join us for this fun-filled, sporty afternoon, where you’ll also be supporting the work of Münchner Aids-Hilfe. As always, Team München is helping to organise the run and will be there with our stand. We look forward to seeing you there!
