Hamburg, Prague or Berlin... or Eurogames or GayGames?

There are also always interesting, well-organised tournaments for players with a BTTV licence in the surrounding area:
Hausham, Herrsching, Dachau, Milbertshofen...

Bandl tournament 2022: Antje and San win with equal points

After a two-year break due to coronavirus, our traditional Christmas band tournament took place again this year. 19 participants came to the eighth edition. Only doubles were played. The matches were drawn anew for each round and played in two sets. After a total of 16 sets, Antje and San each won 12 sets with their alternating partners and thus tied for first place, followed by Hans and Frank with 11 sets each.

Afterwards, we stopped off at our favourite pub, Moro, for the last time, as Moro closed a day later.

Eurogames 2022 in Nijmegen

Team Munich had 5 participants in table tennis, making it the largest group. On the first day, Daniel won the bronze medal in the Swiss Open with 32 participants. Day 2 brought silver for Daniel and Natascha in doubles, bronze for Daniel in level 1 and gold for Björn in level 2. Claudia and Katrin achieved respectable places in level 2. Saturday was match-free, so everyone was able to visit other sports and explore the oldest city in Holland.

Impressions of the games can be found at here.

A short film is available at YouTube to see.

Report from the 2022 sports festival

We had a total of 20 participants at the tournament. Including 2 guests from Austria. We formed 3 groups based on the strength of the players. Group A with the 4 strongest players, Group B with 8 players and Group C with 8 players. Groups B and C played a preliminary round and then a knockout system to determine the winner. Group A was supposed to play a first and second round, but unfortunately Roman injured himself (fortunately not seriously) in the last match of the first round, so that the second round could not be played. A doubles competition was organised according to playing strength.

Sufficient catering was provided. The salads and cakes we brought along went down well. Many thanks again for that!

After the successful and exciting games, 16 participants and friends met for dinner together at Moro. Some then attended the athletes' party.

Club championship 2022: Daniel new club champion!

After the club championship did not take place in 2021 due to the corona pandemic, 14 players met on 03.04.22 for the 2022 club championship.

The five participants in the hobby class played out their winners in a winner-takes-all format. Helmut came out on top here, losing just one set.

The eight participants in the league class each played three preliminary round matches in two groups. The top two from each group qualified for the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, Daniel won 3:0 against Natascha. The second semi-final was really exciting: Lisheng only won the match against Antje in the fifth set 12:10. Daniel went on to win the final against Lisheng.

Who won the last place in the league class, which was played for fun, should not be recorded here...

There was also enough time for the doubles competition (divided into hobby and league classes).

Club championship 2020: Gilton once again club champion

Even before we had to stop training due to the coronavirus pandemic, we were able to hold this year's club table tennis championships on 8 March.

In the singles competition, the division into levels A and B was played out in a preliminary round. Both levels continued in the knockout system with the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Gilton faced Weihua in the final of level A and won the club championship again with a 3:0 victory. In the small final for 3rd place, Björn beat Frank 3:1.

In level B, Heiko and Stefan played a very close match in the final, which Heiko won 3:2. The match for third place between Hans and Natascha was no less exciting, with Hans winning 3:2 in the end.

Six pairs competed in the doubles competition. The winners were determined in a winner-takes-all format.

In the end, two pairs (Björn/Heiko and Bettina/Gilton) had the same number of wins (4:1). But Björn and Heiko had the better set ratio and were therefore ahead. Third place went to Beate and Stefan.

Munich:innen successful at the Schupfnudel Cup in Hamburg

The table tennis players returned from Hamburg with many medals in their luggage.

Six members of Team Munich took part in the biennial Schupfnudel Cup, organised by the queer Hamburg association Startschuss e.V., at the beginning of October. A total of around 50 participants took part.

In the singles, there was first a preliminary group phase to determine the division into levels. In addition to fighting spirit, a portion of luck of the draw was also required here... The placings within the levels were then played out in a winner-takes-all format.

In the doubles, too, the levels were determined in a preliminary round and then the knockout system was used.

On one day, up to 8 singles and 6 doubles had to be played, a very demanding programme...

The placings of the Munich team:

Gilton defends club championship

Fourteen table tennis enthusiasts met on 9 March 2019 to determine this year's club champion.

It started with the singles, divided into two performance levels.

In the Level A The aim was to qualify for the semi-finals in the preceding group matches. There Gilton met Hanns and San met Weihua. In the final that followed, Gilton beat Weihua 3:0. In the small final, San beat Hanns to secure third place.

In the B-Level all played in one group in a winner-takes-all format. Hans did not lose a set and secured victory. Ralph and Bettina took second and third place.

During the lunch break, the Doubles partner drawn by lot. All pairs played in one group.

After a total of 15 doubles matches, Hans and Gilton were the winners, followed by Stefan/Weihua and Ralph/Hanns.

Mas defends his title at the 2018 SportFestival

The table tennis tournament took place as part of Team Munich's SportFestival 2018 with a high participation of 38 players. 14 women and 24 men competed in the A, B and C divisions.

In all classes, the Single Group matches were played first, with the top two in each group qualifying for the knockout round.

In the A-Class Mas, our SummerSportFestival 2016 winner, came out on top once again. In an exciting semi-final, he narrowly beat Ronny in 3:2 sets. In the other semi-final, our local hero Gilton won against Kirstin. The final was no less close: Mas beat Gilton 11:9 in the fifth and deciding set to repeat his title win from 2016.

In the B-Class was the largest field with 16 players. The participants for the quarter-finals were determined in four groups. After six matches for everyone, the winners were determined: Chris ahead of Kai and Rainer.

In the C-Class our guests from Düsseldorf decided the places among themselves and gave the participants from other cities no chance: Dirk came out on top ahead of Nicole and Sabrina.

At the Double Some of the partners had known each other for years, while others had only just met before their first match. After some tough fights, the winners were decided: first place went to Ronny and Kirstin (A class), Kai and Andreas (B class) and Tanja and Kerstin (C class).

Gilton wins the 2018 club championship

Our newcomer Gilton is the new club champion. At this year's club championship on 11 March, he won his group and then the semi-finals and final without losing a game. Second place went to Richard and third place to Chris. A total of eight league players took part.

Five players took part in the hobby class. In one group, the best players were determined according to the "everyone against everyone" mode. Björn won ahead of Ralph and Annette.

In the doubles, everyone played together with a partner of their choice. Sibylle and Hanns prevailed in the final and took first place ahead of Stefan and Chris. Third place went to Claudia and Gilton.

We were particularly pleased about the large and small audience - and of course about the delicious buffet!

Successful tournament participations by Team Munich players

There have been several podium places for table tennis players from Team Munich in recent weeks.

At the Gebrüder-Apfelbeck tournament in Milbertshofen, Heike took a good 2nd place in the women's category.

There were also medals at the individual district championships in the Munich-West district:
Bronze (Natascha), silver (Antje) and gold (Sibylle) in the women's C competition, as well as bronze for Hanns in the men's E class.

Antje took third place in the women's C class at the Herrschingen local championships.

We have a new club champion!

After Richard secured the title in the last two years, this year Chris won the table tennis club championship for the first time. He beat Carsten in five sets in an exciting final. Richard won the match for third place against Hanns.

In Level B, San won with aplomb, with Iulian coming second ahead of Stefan and Natascha.

Two badminton players, Florian and Rupert, competed in Level C this year. The two did well: Florian took second place in the singles behind Ralph and ahead of Karin. They competed together in the doubles and were only beaten by the winning doubles team of Karin and Björn. Ralph and Bettina took third place.

The placings in doubles A/B are as follows: Richard/Iulian, Chris/Stefan, San/Claudia

A total of 18 players took part. Most of us met up again in the evening in our favourite pub, Moro, to celebrate with our new club champion.

Many thanks to all the hard-working helpers in the hall for setting up and dismantling, organising the tournament and, of course, helping with our popular buffet!

Summer Sports Festival 2016

34 participants were registered for this year's summer sports festival. The tournament was played as a uni-sex tournament, i.e. men and women played together and were divided into three performance classes. The main and consolation rounds were played at each level, so that all participants were able to play many matches.

We were particularly pleased to welcome our participants from abroad. Our most well-travelled participant Mas came from Japan and spent his annual holiday in Munich. From a sporting point of view, his first place in the Level A singles and second place in the doubles, together with Sandra from Baden-Baden, was also a complete success! It was also a very successful tournament for Ron (Berlin) and Roland (Vienna): a joint victory in doubles A, as well as a second and a third place in singles.

Eurogames Stockholm 2015
Table tennis team successful!

The table tennis team has an impressive record from this year's Eurogames in Stockholm.

The players of the table tennis team returned to Munich with excellent placings and many a medal in their luggage.

Even though some of the other sports had a few "bumps" in the road and there were protests, at least the playing conditions in the table tennis hall were very good and the organisers on site did their best.

A total of four medals were won, 1* gold, 1* silver and 2* bronze.

The hurdles in the women's competition were very high and presented a challenge that could hardly be overcome, as none other than the current Table tennis world rankings 60th, the Swede Matilda EKHOLM was also at the start.

The placings of the Munich team:

Ladies A Singles:
4th place: Heike P.

Ladies B Singles:

In the "Wild South" 2013

In sporting terms, the second weekend in March took place in the "Wild South".

Abseitz Stuttgart celebrated its 20th anniversary and hosted a multi-sport festival at which the table tennis section organised its first tournament. This time, Team Munich travelled with 9 players, who won a total of 7 medals in exciting matches:

Men's doubles: Gold for Heiko K. and Amir R.
and bronze for Hans H. and Chris L.
Women's doubles: Silver for Natascha G. and Jessica W.
Mixed: Bronze for Natascha G. and Hans H.
Men's singles: Silver for Chris L. and bronze for Heiko K.
Women's singles: Bronze for Natascha G.

We would like to thank our hosts in Stuttgart for a very well-organised tournament followed by a joint dinner, athletes' party and a lavish brunch on Sunday and would be delighted if this was not the last table tennis tournament in the "Wild South".

24th XMAS Tournament

7 - 9 December 2012

The table tennis section of Team Munich once again took part in the 2012 X-Mas tournament in Frankfurt with a large team. A total of four male and one female athlete from our club took part.

And the results were also impressive: Heiko took an excellent 2nd place in the men's class B (the highest performance group with a total of 12 participants)!
Together with Amir, he took a good third place in the doubles (class B). And finally, Natascha also won a medal in the women's category (also class B) with third place.
Further fourth, fifth and sixth places rounded off the good overall result of our team.

The good organisation and the successful supporting programme (dinner at an Italian restaurant, athletes' party and, above all, the traditional Sunday brunch) made the tournament a great experience for all participants, as always.

Successful Topspins at the Pink Panther sports festival in Nuremberg

The annual Team Munich table tennis club championships took place on 27 November 2010. In the mixed, men's and women's doubles and men's and women's singles disciplines, 19 table tennis enthusiasts showed off their skills.
Despite exciting matches and ambitious athletes, the focus this year was once again on having fun.

The exhausting tournament day ended with a cosy get-together and good food at the MORO. In the evening, the winners' trophies and certificates were also presented to the first to third place winners.

Gianna won the women's singles again and took home the trophy! The men's singles was contested by Robert and Steve. After a dramatic 5 sets, Robert was the new winner.

III Gay Games Cologne 2010: Great and successful games

In the men's A/B doubles, Rainer and Libor from Prague took 2nd place.

Table tennis club championship 2009

The annual Team Munich table tennis club championship took place on 28 November 2009.
In the mixed, men's and women's doubles and singles disciplines, 23 table tennis enthusiasts showed what they are made of from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
To the delight of the organisers, this year's turnout was significantly higher than in previous years.
This may have been due to the great popularity that the table tennis division has been experiencing for some time, or to the rich buffet ;o) Despite the exciting games and ambitious athletes, the focus was, as always, on having fun.

The exhausting tournament day ended with a cosy get-together and a schnitzel meal in the Zunfthaus.
The winners' trophies and sports cheque vouchers for the winners of the men's and women's singles finals and the certificates for the winners, runners-up and third-placed teams in the mixed, doubles and singles matches were also presented in the evening.

2nd worldOutGames Copenhagen 2009

1* Gold, 2* Silver and 2* Bonze in table tennis

With four table tennis players, the Munich team was represented more strongly than ever before at an international tournament!

However, the overall field of participants was surprisingly small. It is hard to explain why only one player from Sweden found his way to Copenhagen from the Scandinavian region.

The level of organisation of the tournament fell far short of the expectations of most players and was more reminiscent of a club championship. The tournament only met the minimum requirements, but did not fulfil the character of the World Games.

The background here could be that the local (hetero) organiser lacked the necessary commitment and was not aware of the significance and the expected standard of such an event.

Compared to badminton, where there was a real winner's ceremony with a march-in and fanfare, the table tennis players were put up against the wall rather unkindly.

Participants from Cologne, where the next GayGames will take place next year, promised improvement here.
