III. What's new in badminton

Successful end to the badminton season for the amateur league team too

Following our teams' championship and promotion in the district league and district class A, the amateur league team made the season perfect: after a 6-0 win against MTV Munich, they can no longer be knocked off first place and thus master in the Munich Central/East amateur league!

Congratulations once again to all three teams on this outstanding season. An additional team is expected to be registered in District League B next season.

Review of the division meeting

At the division meeting, which was attended by 28 members this year, the following was decided: Christian, Mai, Putut, Sybille and Zia elected to the division management team. Christian is the division manager and Mai is his deputy. Putut takes on the role of sports director and organises league operations, Sybille is responsible for social media and Zia ensures that normal training operations run smoothly. Thank you for your trust! Janet has left the division management and was given a small gift as a farewell present.

Following the suspension of guest and trial training sessions and new admissions in recent months, there has been discussion about how to deal with the continuing high number of enquiries in the future. The division management will endeavour to find a good balance so that, on the one hand, there are no long waiting times for training and, on the other hand, the admission of new members is possible again. The aim is to keep the number of members roughly stable in the long term. One-off guest training sessions (e.g. if someone from the division brings a visitor) should therefore be possible again on an occasional basis after the Easter holidays, and trial training sessions for potential new members should also be allowed again in a very limited way after the Easter holidays. In EVERY single case, the division management MUST be consulted before a guest or trial training session to determine whether someone can come, so that the training sessions do not become too full again!

Review of the club championship

This year, more people than ever before took part in the club championship: a total of 30 players, or 15 doubles teams (see photo)! After a great day of competition, the winning doubles teams in the four categories are: Doubles A: Christoph and Stephan

Double B: Ashish and Steve

Double C: Cuong and Quynh

Double D: Christian and Sascha

You can see all other rankings and match results here:

V. Handball season finished

In April, the handball players entered the last two games of the season. Our motto: Have fun again and avoid injuries! At least the first part worked out.

On 29 March, we played away against HSG B-one II. It was a close game at first, with the hosts going into the break with a 13:10 lead. In the end, we were defeated 30:21.

The last game of the season followed on 12 April, when we were guests at TSV München Ost II. Unfortunately, we were defeated 35:27 here as well. However, the focus was on the farewell two long-standing league players: We would like to thank Ralf and Even for their outstanding achievements over the past few years and wish them all the best in their next adventures!

We then celebrated the end of the season together at our sponsor München72 in Holzstraße, where we had a lovely evening with delicious food and good drinks.

Now we are already looking forward to summer, when we will be able to Euro Games in Lyon will be taking part. Until then, it's time to train hard!

Speaking of which, do you know anyone who is really keen on handball or would like to give it a try? We are currently looking for new players and a new coach. For more information, training times, venues and more, please visit our website. www.teammuenchen.de/handball

VI. Success for the Munich Monks

The Munich Monks had a very busy schedule in April. After returning to the Anton Fingerle Centre (AFZ) at the beginning of the month, they went straight to the start of the second half of the season. association league to Erlangen. The Monks won their first match against TV Erlangen 21:19. The second match against Würzburg was also evenly balanced for a long time, with the score at 5:14. The Monks proved that they had used the winter training and training camp to improve further.

Over the Easter weekend, the Monks are at the birthday tournament of the tight chains Brussels They travelled here as part of a ménage à trois together with the Colgone Crushers from Cologne and the Berlin Bruisers from Berlin, playing against teams from the Amsterdam Lowlanders, Team France (Toulouse/Lyon/Bordeaux) and two teams from Straffe Ketten (SK Blue and SK White). After three wins in the group stage (22-0 against Amsterdam, 10-0 against SK Blue, 10-5 against SK White) and a draw against Team France (12-12), they faced SK Blue again in the semi-finals, winning 20-0. In the final The Monks fought bravely, but in the end their opponents from France were too strong and won 27:5. Nevertheless, the Monks performed very well, especially the players who only joined the Monks in July 2024.

The Monks are also preparing for the IGR Union Cup which is taking place this year in Oslo, Norway. This is a tournament for all LGBTQ+ inclusive amateur rugby clubs in Europe, who will be competing for trophies in the Norwegian capital this time around and strengthening the place of the LGBTQ community in amateur rugby.

The Monks were very successful at the 2023 Union Cup in Birmingham, winning their Tier 4 together with our friends from the Vienna Eagles (Vienna), which means they won the Challenger Cup.

Our men's team also performed impressively at the 2024 Bingham Cup in Rome, the „world championship“ for LGBTQ-inclusive rugby. After advancing to Tier 3 thanks to their success in Birmingham, the joint team with Vienna finished 14th out of 32 teams.

However, we are particularly delighted about the FLINTA+ team that our department sent to Rome together with Vienna. This is very remarkable given that rugby is a niche sport in Germany.

Our Flying Monks team is also aiming to impress in Oslo and bring home the next trophy.

More information about the Union Cup in Oslo is available at: https://unioncup.com/

VII. Miniature golf

After the weather put a damper on our first outdoor play day in April, we will be meeting on Friday, 16 May at Minigolf Feldmoching meet and catch up on this. The committee of the local club will give us an introduction on how best to play, how to hold the racket, which ball to use and what posture is best. All in all, there is a lot of technique to learn.

Interested parties are welcome.

Queer gym in Kreuzberg

It would be a gross exaggeration to say that gyms are queer safe spaces. However, there is now a place in Berlin that aims to fulfil precisely this claim. Evelyn Bastian founded the Queer Power Gym on Oranienplatz in Kreuzberg. „Body norms and fitness standards have no place here, nor does competitive thinking,“ the website states. The gym's services are aimed particularly at trans people: „We make strength training gender-affirming!“
